Today is a day that will go down in history for the remainder of time! All over the United States (and the world), men and women are celebrating the significant decision that was made this morning.
The U.S. Supreme Court has officially ruled that same-sex couples across the country have the constitutional right to get married, in whichever state they live in! This brings marriage equality to all of the states where same-sex marriage bans were still in place or still being enforced to some extent. States such as North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan now join the list of states to allow same-sex marriage.
The decision in the case unsurprisingly written by Justice Anthony Kennedy, relied on the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment, which says,
"No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
What an incredible day for ALL Americans… truly proud of us! It's no longer considered, "gay marriage"… it's just marriage. It's no longer, "a gay couple"… it's just a couple! It's no longer, "gay parents"… just parents. As a country, it is a monumental feat to now allow anyone of ANY sex to marry and live the happiest life they can!
